I am so awesome.
So, I have a new domain name. It’s adde.rs. Seriously. How cool is that. I think my domain registrar is a little bit shady, and I may have said that I live in Serbia. But other than that, it’s mine and it’s awesome.
But it opens a few problems with my email. Obviously, I want to use adde.rs for email. So should I forward adde.rs mail to sinkingpuppies.com? Or should I use adde.rs as my primary email address, and then forward my sinkingpuppies.com mail? And what about appulance.com. Big decisions.
At the moment, I have my email hosted through 01.com with Zimbra. It’s US$49.99/user/year, and the service has been excellent. However, if I want to add another domain, it’s another US$49.99/user/year. Not really my favourite option. I looked in to hosted Exchange as well, and that’s just as, if not more, expensive.
Before I used 01.com, I was using Google Apps. I was using the free, standard version. But, for $50/user/year, I can get the “Premium” version which lets me add multiple domains. From my (brief) investigations into the topic, I can make the additional domains alias domains which mirror all the accounts. So email sent to [email protected]
also gets sent to [email protected]
and [email protected]
.
The third option I was cogitating over was fucking it all and hosting it myself. I can pick up a cheap server-type box off eBay, bung on Windows Server and Exchange and off we go. I’d use something like MailRoute to store-and-forward my home internet goes down. But, I get the feeling iiNet wouldn’t like me hosting my own email. Plus, theres the whole security thing.
I don’t know what to do. At the moment, Google Apps seems to be the best bet., but I am open to suggestions.
