How great is cruising!
Last week, Chris and I went on a cruise from Brisbane to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. And it was epic.
My folks went on a cruise last year and they didn’t really like it – “too many people”, they reckon. So, we booked this without the highest of hopes. We thought that, at best it would be “okay”.
P&O managed to completely blow my expections away. I had an amazing time. My biggest concern is that on our sea-days, we would be bored because there was nothing to do. It turns out, the days in the middle of the ocean were the best.
From the minute we boarded, we were made to feel welcome by all the amazing crew. The food was amazing. The activities were fun – who would have thought buying a wooden horse would be so much fun! (Incidentally, our horse came second in the Pacific Dawn Owner’s Cup – no prizes for second, though!) We played bingo. We made (and then drank) cocktails. I smashed some pokies. We played trivia (and came second in Cruise-Long Trivia, with me, Paul. Still no prizes for second!) We explored islands. We swam and snorkled. We rode quad bikes and “zego”s (whatever the fuck they are). We got dressed up and shitfaced. And we ate, and ate and ate.
The food on board was great. There’s the option of the buffet or à la carte included in your fare, or you can pay a cover and go to a fancier Asian fusion restaurant or a Luke Mangan grill. As I expected, the buffet was full of feral bogans, and subsequently we ate at the à la carte restaurant for most of our meals. And they were good!
